What is the End-to-end Principle?

The end-to-end principle is a computer network design method in which critical application functions are held at the end points of the network, rather than at intermediate nodes like routers and gates. The end-to-end principle avoids problems which may arise if intermediate nodes break down, and is the key to net neutrality.
